Transit

Movement of cargo through multiple countries or ports on its journey from origin to destination.

Transit

Operations

Movement of cargo through multiple countries or ports on its journey from origin to destination.

Detailed explanation

Transit is the movement of goods through several countries or ports on the way from the source country to the destination country.

Types of Transit

1. Sea Transit Cargo moves through multiple seaports. Example: a shipment from China passes Jeddah then Alexandria.

2. Road Transit Cargo moves overland across borders. Example: a shipment from Saudi Arabia via Jordan to Egypt.

3. Air Transit Cargo moves through multiple airports — the fastest form of transit.

Transit Stages

  • •**Receipt at the origin port**
  • •**Shipment via the first carrier**
  • •**Arrival at the transit port/airport**
  • •**Re-shipment via the next carrier**
  • •**Arrival at the final destination**

Why Transit Matters

  • •**Lower cost**: can be cheaper than direct shipping
  • •**Wider coverage**: reaches destinations not served by direct vessels
  • •**Flexibility**: routes can be changed as conditions require
  • •**Temporary storage**: cargo can be stored during transit
